Fort smith woman dies from H1N1 flu

FORT SMITH, Ark. (KFSM) - A Fort Smith woman lost her life and the life of her unborn child from the flu.

Chris Creekmore said his 29-year-old wife, Leslie, died on Monday morning. She was battling H1N1 in a St. Louis hospital.

They lost their unborn baby girl Jera back in January. Leslie was 20 weeks pregnant when she first became sick. Her body delivered Jera while she was unconscious.

"It was the worst imaginable experience of my life. Right at about 4 a.m. her blood pressure just dropped drastically, it wasn't something we had issues with for weeks at that point," said Leslie's husband.

Leslie's family said she didn't get the flu shot since it was so early in her pregnancy.

Her funeral will be this Saturday.

According to the Sebastian County Health Department, more adults between 18 and 50 years old are coming down with the flu this year.
