George Takei to visit UCA for lecture on career, internment camp

CONWAY, Ark. (KTHV) - Star of the original Star Trek series and social justice activist George Takei will hold a public lecture at the University of Central Arkansas on Thursday, October 27.

Takei will speak on his time spent in an Arkansas internment camp during World War II as a child. He considers it a "formative experience" in his life. Takei will also focus on stories throughout his career that deal with his role in the entertainment industry and his support of equality.

In 2015, Takei planned to visit UCA but had to cancel due to the success of his Broadway musical Allegiance. Last year the university commemorated the 70th anniversary of the Arkansas Japanese internment camp.

The event will begin at 7:30 p.m. with tickets costing $15 for the general public and $5 for UCA faculty and staff. UCA students can attend the event for free. You can purchase tickets by calling UCA Ticket Central at (501) 450-3265 or visit
