Group gathers in Malvern to release balloons in honor of dead loved ones

MALVERN, Ark. (KTHV) -- Saturday evening marked a chance for dozens of people in Hot Spring County to remember loved ones whose lives were taken too soon.

A couple of Facebook groups organized the balloon release and ceremony at Whitewater Park in Malvern. Hannah Norwood originally came up with the idea as a way to honor her cousin, Dusty Finley, who died in a car crash a dozen years ago. When another family friend recently passed away, she decided to bring the idea back.

In just three weeks, dozens of people signed on and showed up Saturday night. Each had different reasons, but they came together to remember in their own way.

“Some it's a parent. Some it's a child. Some it's a cousin or a brother. And everybody is supportive in their own way,” said Norwood.

The Facebook group that Norwood started will continue after Saturday's event. It's open to anyone living in Malvern or Hot Spring County that has lost a loved one. She hopes it will be a place where people can go and find support and friends during sad times.
