Group meets to celebrate recent decrease in violent crime

Recognizing positivity: group meets in Little Rock to celebrate reduction in crime

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- It’s no secret that  2017 has been a bit of a hard year for the capitol city.

With more than 40 homicides just since January, it can be hard for people to see the good within our communities. Well, Thursday night, a group of all ages met at the Oak Forest Neighborhood Resource Center to celebrate the good.

Thankfully, the violent crime in Little Rock has been down in recent weeks, thanks in part to people like the community leaders who met here tonight.

Dr. Larry Johnson, Pastor of Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, said Thursday was about coming together and recognizing the hard work of people behind the scenes to make the city a better place.

“Oftentimes those on the front for it get the recognition and publicity, but these guys here are doing some major things here in the community as it relates to violence and crime that you've seen here lately,” said Dr. Johnson.

Awards were handed out at the event to encourage the young people in the audience to do good.
