Historic Cotham's Mercantile destroyed in fire

Historic Cotham's Mercantile destroyed by fire Tuesday

SCOTT, Ark. (KTHV) – A fire destroyed an historic Arkansas landmark overnight on Monday.

Cotham’s Mercantile and restaurant caught on fire overnight. Fire crews were called out to the scene, but the building could not be saved. Entergy is currently reporting around 275 customers without power in the area due to a downed power line.

Investigators are looking into the cause of the fire.

Cotham's is home to the famous hubcap burger and has received national recognition for outstanding food. The original location in Scott was built in 1917.

It has served as a general mercantile store in the area for local farmers and plantation owners. It has also served as a military commissary and lockup for local law violators awaiting trial by a circuit-riding judge.
