Jessieville superintendent to resign September 1st

JESSIEVILLE, Ark. (KTHV) - Weeks after an Arkansas superintendent was arrested for driving while intoxicated in a work vehicle, parents demanded to know his resignation status. On Wednesday evening, the board decided that Andy Curry will resign as of September 1st. He and the district reached a negotiation settlement.

The settlement includes Curry getting pay for a year and a half, he will get his school truck, his portable computer, and both parties agree to not sue each other.

At tonight's board meeting dozens of parents gathered for an explanation or some sort of answer. Instead, they sat and waited while board members met in a closed room for an executive session that lasted hours.

"That's the biggest problem I think. The board members won't involve the community members at all. It's all about the board members, just make all the decisions."

Only three items were on Wednesday night's agenda, and the one that took the bulk of the meeting time was executive session where several candidates were interviewed for interim superintendent.

"A lot of people are frustrated and a lot of people mad all at the same time. I mean there are some angry folks up here."

Parents told THV they are frustrated that weeks have gone by since former superintendent Curry resigned after allegedly being arrested for driving drunk in Texas. They want answers they say they deserve.

Crystal Langston agrees parents deserve answers, but at this point, she is ready to move on.

"I don't feel like we will ever get answers. In my opinion, I'd rather get an interim and just move forward and try to as a lot of people have said, heal from what has gone on in the community."

There has been no word yet as to who will be selected as the interim superintendent for Jessieville but we follow this story and bring developments as they become available.
