Lamar Porter Field has seen some legends. RBI baseball hopes to make more

Cliff Lee helping kids through RBI Baseball

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- Hustle up, hustle up, and hustle in. If you look at the roots of baseball in Little Rock, look no further than Lamar Porter Field.

Over the eight decades since its inception, this field is still teaching lessons. But today this field provides much more than just hits and groundballs. It provides one of the great pitchers to ever play the game.

Former Cy Young Award Winner and Benton native Cliff Lee won 143 games in the big leagues, but now he spends his Sundays on the mound speaking instead of pitching.

“I just want to come out here and motivate these guys,” said Lee. “Let them know that a guy from Arkansas can make it to the major leagues.”

Before battling for World Series rings, Lee was right here at Lamar Porter--where these guys are now, giving up their day off to get better on the field.

“The kids that are going to make it to the next level are the ones that push themselves and force it, and they make themselves be something extra.”

And whether it's extra hours of practice or a few extra selfies. These kids are trying to make home, a better place.

“I give positive advice and help them stay motivated to be productive athletes and eventually citizens,” said Lee.
