Little Rock police upfront about more than 50 underage drinking arrests at Riverfest

More than 50 arrested in connection with underage drinking at Riverfest

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - If you went to Riverfest this weekend, you probably noticed Little Rock police on the clock, but you probably didn’t notice those undercover looking for underage drinkers.

Looking for underage drinkers is nothing new, but what is new is their approach on social media to make sure the public knows they’re out there and making arrests.

The Little Rock Police Department arrested more than 50 people over the weekend with charges related to underage drinking.

“We’re just trying to make sure we keep an eye on that," said Officer Steve Moore. “This yea,r putting it on social media, made it a little more obvious to people."

Each day the department posted the arrests made on social media.

“Social media is a big thing especially with the kids," said Moore. “Maybe that would alert them ‘don’t try this, we are out here looking."

Most arrests were for minors in possession, with a few over 21 arrested for providing, one public intoxication.

“We just want to try to keep everybody safe best we can," said Moore. “We'll be back next year doing the same thing."

Riverfest does give wristbands to those of legal drinking age, but police say a wrist band won’t stop them from asking for your I.D. if they think you may be under 21.
