Little Rock police urge community members to work together to stop crime

String of crimes in Little Rock have police asking for cooperation

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- Little Rock police continue to preach that there's power in numbers.

Wednesday morning, the department tweeted this, “today like every day, we are out protecting our city. It's a shared responsibility, see something, say something.”

“Even if we had one hundred more officers, we still need the communities help, assistance, and cooperation in solving violent crime, property crime, pretty much every crime,” said Officer Moore with the Little Rock Police Department.

The rise in crime in Little Rock is no secret, just in the past month there have been six homicides. Jessica Carlton said the crime is only getting worse.

“You remember that gang banging days back in Little Rock? It seems like it's going back to those days,” said Carlton.

Julie Bryom said crime is bad in certain areas.

“Crime is spotty, it depends on the neighborhoods,” Bryom said.

The people of Little Rock agree with police, it's time to team up. Carlton said it takes everyone, not just one individual.

“If we could get everyone to stop going against each other than the community could be much better than what it is,” she said.

Byrom said if you live here you should be a part of it.

“You can't just live your life without relying on any of the resources provided by the city; fireman, police, city officials. You have to count on everybody and do your part because if you do your part things will be maybe a little bit better and a little bit more special,” Byrom said.

Police and residents said teamwork makes the dream work and that dream is to cut down on crime.

“This is my stomping grounds, I love my city, but it's up to us to make a difference,” said Carlton.
