LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Two cultures collided Saturday morning to celebrate the expansion of the skate park at Kanis Park. The grand re-opening was made possible by a grant by the Coca-Cola Company.
The partnership paid for new benches, new guardrails and an update to the skate park itself. The skaters now have more space to ollie, kickflip and 50-50 grind until their wheels fall off.
While city officials were happy to show off the improvements, it's the skaters who welcome the ceremony most.
"A lot of us were up here helping it and mainly getting our hands dirty with it," said Nick Revis. "So, we were there for a majority of the progress getting to see our dreams, you know, come true, man."
The skaters who did help with the renovations were quick to try out any new addition as it happened.
"Once one thing dried we were skating it as much as we could," said Dylan Sale.
The event also had a skateboarding clinic to help teach newcomers the basics of skateboarding.
