VAN BUREN CO., Ark. (KTHV) - A log truck driver has been sentenced to 40 years in prison after testing positive for methamphetamine following a fatal crash in June 2014.
Jerry L. Hickman, 39, pleaded guilty this week to multiple charges including two counts of negligent homicide. He has also been charged with 10 counts of 1st degree battery and 6 counts of 2nd degree battery.
The accident happened after his tractor trailer had a blowout. The truck overturned, spilling logs onto Highway 65 where new construction to the Archery Creek Bridge was taking place. The logs killed two people and injured 19 construction workers.
