Lonoke police stop student from bringing gun to school

LONOKE, Ark. (KTHV) -- Tuesday morning, the Lonoke police department received a call concerning a student taking a firearm to the local high school.

The high school principal received a tip that the student had brought the gun to the sporting event Monday night.

Police resource officers were able to intercept the male student before he went into the school.  He had an unloaded gun in his backpack and no bullets.

"No students or staff were in any danger during this event, and the backpack never made it beyond the office.  The administration did just as they should have as well as the school resource officers," said Dr. Suzanne Bailey, the Lonoke School Superintendent.

The Lonoke police department stated that the student will be charged as an adult, but they are waiting to release his name until their investigation is complete.
