LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- The Broadway Bridge that connects Little Rock and North Little Rock is open following a major construction project.
After nearly six months of construction here on the Broadway Bridge businesses say they're ready for things to get back to normal. The sound of beer and traffic flowing at the entrance of Diamond Bear Brewing Company in North Little Rock means customers are coming back, and money is once again being spent there.
"Hallelujah, I'm delighted that it's open," said Diamond Bear Brewing Company Manager Russ Melton.
Business managers like Melton couldn't wait for the Broadway Bridge to reopen. Diamond Bear saw about a 10 percent reduction in retail sales at their restaurant located near the base of the bridge.
"The traffic pretty well disappeared, all the drive-by traffic. We were prepared for it, we took a lot of actions, but still our sales were down somewhat," said Melton.
Melton said he noticed an increase in business just during lunchtime on Thursday, but the months of bridge construction were difficult.
"I know we were all anxious to get the bridge open," he said.
Drivers who frequent the Argenta area businesses are happy as well.
"Help the flow between North Little Rock and North Little Rock significantly. Being down to one bridge it was rough especially during rush hour," said John Gaines.
For Melton it's a beautiful thing.
"Now that it's open in its better format we think it will more than offset that," Melton said.
Originally the bridge was set to open March the 30th. The bike and pedestrian lanes are still under construction.
