LRPD investigating assault between teacher, student

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- Police are investigating a reported assault between a student and a teacher.

Police say they responded to Mabelvale Junior High after an assault was reported between teacher Kyle Graves, 26, and a 15-year-old student.

Graves told police that the student was disturbing class when he asked the student to settle down. The student then stood up and started walking out of the classroom when Graves stepped in front of the door and put his hands out in front of himself, telling the student to sit down.

Police say the student said "You better not touch me," and then pushed Graves' hands down and hit him in the face. Graves wrapped his arms around the student and they both fell to the floor.

Graves told police he held the student until the principal David Smith came into the classroom and helped him get the student under control.

According the report, the student told police he did push Graves, but that he did not hit him in the face. However, police saw that Graves' nose was bleeding and swollen.

After further investigation, the student was transported to juvenile intake without incident.
