Romine's Rookies: Mentoring program with LRPD

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Little Rock Police Department are reviving an old program to young boys in Little Rock schools. On Friday, LRPD kicked off Romine's Rookies, an offshoot of the popular Kids and Cops program.

Romine's Rookies is a program where officers will make weekly visits to Romine Elementary. They will meet with a group of fifth grade boys for mentoring and team building.

"We see these young men in the neighborhood everyday and it's just a way that we can give back and come by and spend a little time with them and work with them and enjoy each other's company," said officer Kelly Crace.

They will meet with the students for an hour each week for the rest of the school year. The hour is split up into two 30-minute sessions. The first 30 minutes the officers will give a lesson while the last 30 minutes is dedicated to help with tests and homework.
