Man leads Ark. deputies on extensive chase before arrest

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) – On Sunday, a Little Rock man was arrested on multiple drug and assault charges after an extensive car chase.

Authorities said the driver, 21-year-old Derrick Lewis, refused to pull over after deputies pursued him for not having a license plate light. He is said to have led deputies to East View Terrace apartments where he crashed into a fence and struck a police car. He then reportedly got out of the car and tried to jump the fence but was stopped by a K-9 officer.

According to a report, Lewis almost ran down three deputies who were a few blocks away, but they took cover while the others continued to chase Lewis.

After a fight, deputies finally got Lewis under control and in handcuffs. After searching his car, police found prescription pills, guns and ammo.

Lewis is charged with three counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, second degree criminal mischief, fleeing, no tail lamps or reflectors, possession of firearms by certain persons, possession of a controlled schedule IV substances with intent to sell, simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, theft by receiving and resisting arrest.

He is being held at the Pulaski County jail.
