Man pleads guilty to shooting death of nephew

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Ark. (AP) - A Stone County man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to the shooting death of his nephew.

The Batesville Daily Guard reports ( ) that Harvey Loosey was sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty in Stone County Circuit Court to second-degree murder in the January 2013 death of Joshua Loosey near Calico Rock. The charge was reduced from first-degree murder in exchange for the plea.

Harvey Loosey declined an opportunity to speak before sentencing.

Police have said Loosey previously told investigators of a land dispute and that he feared his nephew would shoot him during an encounter days before the shooting.
