Man who says he spotted escaped murderer speaks out

PINE BLUFF, Ark. (KTHV) – Four days after escaping from the Arkansas Department of Corrections Pine Bluff Unit, convicted murderer Timothy Buffington is still at large.

Tuesday night, a Grant County man told authorities he spotted the prisoner in his yard along Princeton Pike near the Jefferson County line. That man shared his story with us, but did not want to be identified in fear of retaliation.

"I looked over that way and that's when I seen somebody over at the edge of the woods," he said.

The property owner told THV11 that around 8 p.m. Tuesday, he saw someone standing near his shed and when he went inside to call 911, the figure ran into the forest.

"A little while later, the news came on and they were showing video of him trying to bust in the door, and it looked just like him," he recalled.

Teams from the Department of Corrections continued their search along Princeton Pike Wednesday as officers inspected each and every vehicle at multiple checkpoints in Jefferson County.

Spokesperson Shea Wilson said, "It's just a matter of time. Obviously, we would have liked to have him back in custody by now. We would have liked to have him back on day one, but sometimes these searches take a little bit longer, and we're going to invest whatever time is necessary to getting him back."

If you see Buffington, call 911 immediately. He is to be considered armed and dangerous.
