Maumelle Police Department receives donation to fund Narcan program

MAUMELLE, Ark. (May 19, 2017) – On Friday, the Maumelle Police Department announced the donation of $3,000 to fund the department’s Narcan program.

The money was donated by the Muskie Harris Rehabilitation Service.

Narcan is a product that officers can administer to reverse the effects of an opium overdose.  Nationwide, there have been many lives saved by using this product.

The Maumelle Police Department has had this program in place for some time now.

One of the challenges pertaining to a program of this nature is the cost of the product, and that each dose has a two year shelf life.

In the early months of 2017, the department’s stockpile of Narcan reached its expiration date. They reached out to Mr. Harris (owner/operator of Muskie Harris Rehab Service) to assist them in funding and he immediately insisted on footing the bill for the entire program.

As a result, each of the 34 sworn in personnel has been outfitted with this life saving antidote.

The check will be presented at the MPD headquarters on May 23 at 2 p.m.
