LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV)- Same sex couples are taking full advantage of all the benefits that come with tying the knot.
Shortly after getting married on Monday, a number of couples took their children to the health department to add both parents' names to their birth certificates. "I deserved to be on that birth certificate the day they were born," said Sara May. "Now that I finally am it's just incredible." May's wife Amanda gave birth to two twin girls two years ago, but until Monday she wasn't able to be on their birth certificates. "Sara's always been their momma," added Amanda May. "We wanted it on the birth certificate to make it right and official."
The May's are all too familiar with complications of proving parenthood. Sara says she was initially banned from seeing her daughter Davin in the hospital last August. "The nurses at children's were wonderful but that part was hard," she said. "If something were to happen to her I've got the birth certificate and I'm the other parent. It's an awesome feeling."
