Meow alert! Goal reached to break ground on 'Joey's Play Room'

LR Animal Village to build 'Joey's Play Room'

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) – It’s official! Joey’s Play Room at the Little Rock Animal Village is happening.

Friends of the Little Rock Animal Village, a nonprofit, raised the money to build its new Cat Room, and THV11’s Joey the Garden Cat was on the fundraising team.

Joey’s Play Room is coming this fall. It will give the cats a place to get exercise and play. The main goal is to give the felines a more active life and make them healthier. But it will also show potential new owners how the cats interact with others and how much energy they have. This would be a great way to help people determine which cat would best fit in their family and at their home.

The village set out to raise nearly $60,000 to build this cat play area. Fundraising started in April 2014.

Tragically, Joey passed away on August 29, 2014, after a long battle with feline infectious peritonitis (FIP)

But his memory will live on with this newest addition.

Tracy Roark, Director of the Little Rock Animal Village told THV11 they’re very excited to get the play room up and running and they will host a big groundbreaking after all the plans are finalized.

We’ll update you when the groundbreaking date is set in stone right here on THV11 and thv11.com.

The Little Rock Animal Village is located at 4500 Kramer Street in Little Rock, Arkansas. If you don’t know how Joey came to be a part of the THV11 family, click here.
