Easterseals creates DrainSmart mural highlighting endangered Ivory-billed woodpecker

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - The Easterseals Adult Center for Training and Wellness has completed their mural for this year's Drain Smart program.

The mural is called the "Ivory-Billed Woodpecker Through Stained Glass." The group said their design reflects their art room as the center provides a services to many people in Little Rock.

"We are so many pieces to a larger puzzle," said Laura Terry. "Working with so many varying disabilities and types of people, we all create one big beautiful picture of the Little Rock community."

Several members of the center helped to finish the mural which features the critically endangered Ivory-billed woodpecker.

The Easterseals mural can be found on the corner of Cedar and 12th in front of the Little Rock Police Department substation. The last time the woodpecker was spotted in Arkansas was in 2004.

This mural is just one of 18 submissions chosen to participate in the program this year. THV11 has partnered with Audubon Arkansas in efforts to keep our state's waterways clean.

Drain Smart is designed to show the importance and function of our local storm drains and how litter can affect our planet. When it rains Little Rock's municipal storm drains pick up everything and the polluted water flows directly to our streams, rivers, and lakes.

A good reminder to think twice before disposing anything down a storm drain is the recent rainfall that is causing flooding in parts of our state right now.

THV11 and THV11.com will be showing more murals from this year's participants as they are completed.

Murals can also be found on Kavanaugh Boulevard, the Promenade at Chenal, and Outlets of Little Rock.
