NLR police searching for man that assaulted a woman on Overbrook Trail

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- North Little Rock Police need your help finding an assault suspect on the run. Police said he attacked a woman as she walked alone on the Overbrook Trail near North Hills Blvd.

The woman described her attacker as a black male around 5’6 to 5’7 and anywhere between 18 and 20 years old. The victim said she was punched twice in the face and her cell phone was thrown on the ground.

"I feel this area is safe,” said Phillip Huff.

Huff goes to the trail a lot with his young children.

"It's very quiet around here,” said Brian Force who comes to exercise.

A physical attack happened where everyone in the area least expected.

"Its well-traveled, you've got lots of different places for the kids to play,” Huff said.

North Little Rock Police said the suspect may or may not have had a weapon. He grabbed her cell phone from her.

"I'm really surprised, never seen or heard of anything like that happening here,” said Huff.

"Yeah that's unbelievable, I can't imagine it. You just telling me this, it's shocking,” Force said.

At some point during the attack the victim broke free and ran towards JFK for help. Her assaulter sprinted east in the opposite direction. He reportedly was wearing a red shirt and gray sweat pants.

“They'll have to get some police presence out here to watch out for these crooks,” said Force.

Families with children of all ages frequent the park.

"There’s 15 to 20 people every time I come out here on the trail,” he added.

Both residents are shocked and concerned.

"I come out here about 3 or 4 times a week,” Force said.

"There's a lot of folks usually out on the trail during daylight hours,” said Huff.

About 10 officers and detectives responded to the scene this morning. Police searched the area for the suspect, but so far there's no sign of him.
