Officials: 2 planes headed toward each other in fatal Bentonville plane crash

BENTONVILLE, Ark. (AP) - A federal investigator says two airplanes were headed toward each other when one veered away and crashed at an airport in Bentonville, killing the pilot.

The Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports that National Transportation Safety Board investigator John Brannen said Thursday that one plane was heading north and landing while the other plane was taking off to the south when the pilot of the plane taking off veered away and crashed into a hangar.

Authorities say 70-year-old pilot Rex Grimsley was killed in the Wednesday morning crash.

Brannen said the investigation into the crash will include determining if everything on the airplane was functioning properly and interviews with airport officials and the pilot of the other plane.
