LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- A Little Rock police officer is on paid administrative after shooting and killing a serial car thief.
Late Wednesday night, the officer tracked 22-year-old Austin Snyder to the parking lot of the Extended Stay America hotel at Kanis and Shackleford. Snyder had active felony warrants out from the Little Rock Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Office as well as other agencies.
Police were told that Snyder had been living from hotel to hotel and was reportedly driving a stolen GMC Yukon. As officers searched the parking lot, they found a black GMC Yukon with a white male in the driver's seat.
Snyder tried to escape, ramming into a guest's car which then hit the officer's car. According to the police statement, Snyder refused to show his hands and then reached inside the vehicle for an unknown object. That's when the officer fired at him multiple times.
Assistant Chief Finks said Snyder was wanted for stealing several cars in central Arkansas.
Inside the vehicle they found two handguns. There were also two passengers in the car at the time of the shooting.
Snyder was transported to a nearby hospital and died due to the injuries sustained.
