One dead following officer-involved shooting in Springdale

SPRINGDALE, Ark. (KTHV) – According to CBS affiliate, 5NEWS in northwest Arkansas, one person is dead following an officer-involved shooting on Tuesday night.

Springdale police say that two officers stopped a man driving a scooter at 10:36 p.m. at the intersection of Turner and Gates. After stopping, the man on the scooter pulled out a pistol and fired at the officers. The officers returned fire, striking the man, the press release states.

The man was transported to Northwest Medical Center in Springdale where he was later pronounced dead.

The name of the man and the officers involved have not been released at this time.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office is investigating the shooting. Springdale police said the officers were placed on administrative leave while the department conducts an internal investigation, which is a standard procedure in these situations.
