Organizers call 'Alley Parties' a success in bringing residents to downtown Little Rock

"Alley Parties" shines a light on growing downtown Little Rock economy

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - The Downtown Little Rock Partnership sponsored “Alley Parties” are bringing people from all over the city together.

Gabe Holmstrom, the partnership’s executive director said all three of them have been a hit.

“People really enjoy a unique event that is something you don’t do every day,” said Holmstrom.

He said hundreds of people attended each event. The first event was in the East Village district, the second on Capitol Avenue, and the final one downtown behind Samantha’s Tap House, Soul Fish Café, and Bruno’s.

Soul Fish General Manager, Jeffrey Williams, thinks the parties have brought people from areas like west Little Rock to the downtown area.  He said that is something downtown needs to continue thriving.

“The alley parties are definitely helping showcase downtown because 20 years ago downtown was dead and there was nothing to it,” said Williams. “But it has been under a major revitalization for several years now.”

The parties have been such a success, the Downtown Little Rock Partnership is planning more. Holmstrom said they are going to do one behind the downtown Tech Park in the fall and another by the River Market.  He said they also want to find locations in the city where people don't necessarily think about having an event.
