Over 25 people charged with gun, drug crimes in West Memphis

WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (KTHV) - A "major investigation" by law enforcement officials to curb drug trafficking and gun violence in West Memphis has resulted in 25 indictments of 43 people.

According to the release, more than 300 police officers began serving arrest warrants for 50 people early Tuesday morning. The task force, known as Money Don't Sleep, was a "targeted takedown" which allowed law enforcement to arrest 26 people. Eleven defendants were already in state custody while 13 still remain at large.

"Our collective goal is to return these communities to their law-abiding citizens," said Acting U.S. Attorney Patrick C. Harris. "Today's major operation is a huge step toward this goal, but know that our commitment to helping this part of the state will continue long after today."
