Overnight standoff in Pine Bluff ends peacefully

PINE BLUFF, Ark. (KTHV) – An overnight standoff in Pine Bluff ended peacefully on Monday morning.

The Pine Bluff Police Department received a call around 9 p.m. on Sunday in reference to a man shooting a gun inside a home. Officers found 64-year-old Thomas Knowles outside the home with a shotgun threatening suicide.

It was later determined that Knowles had fired the weapon at family members prior to officers’ arrival, but no one was hit or injured.

Eventually, he barricaded himself in a car with the gun and drove off, running into a ditch.

Around 1:30 a.m. Monday, officers finally convinced Knowles to throw the gun out the window and surrender.

He remains in the hospital to be treated for pre-existing conditions.

Detectives are still investigating the incident to determine what Mr. Knowles will be charged with.
