Fayetteville police have arrested a man after he allegedly shot his dog in the head.
According to CBS affiliate KFSM, 23-year-old Taylor Weir was arrested Wednesday and charged with aggravated animal cruelty, a class D felony.
Police were called to the residence on West Stone Street around 2:32 a.m. in regards to a suicidal person. Weir's roommate stated that they saw Weir with a gun and noticed blood "all over" the apartment.
Once inside the apartment, police found an English Mastiff with bullet wounds to both its head and body. The report noted that Weir was covered in blood, but told police he wasn't sure where the blood came from. He claimed that he did nothing wrong.
According to the report, police said there was a strong smell of cleaning supplies in the apartment and there was an attempt to clean up the blood.
A 9mm handgun was found at the scene as well as a spent 9mm casing.
Weir denied being suicidal and was cleared by medics on scene.
No bond has been set for Weir. Class D felonies in Arkansas are punishable up to six years and a maximum fine of $10,000.
