PopUp Argenta aims to showcase underdeveloped potential within city

PopUp Argenta brings food trucks, vendors to North Little Rock

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - PopUp in the Rock takes to Argenta to demonstrate what's possible within underdeveloped parts of the city.

Create Little Rock, the young professionals organization of the Little Rock Regional Chamber of Commerce, and studioMAIN, a collective of designers, architects, engineers, and contractors, are hosting the 2017 PopUp in the Rock project.

PopUp Argenta is during Argenta Art Walk, July 21, 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Opening night features live music by Joshua Asante of Amasa Hines and family-friendly sketch comedy by the Red Octopus Theater Co.

From July 21 to September 15, PopUp Argenta will demonstrate a newly envisioned community space in the heart of the Argenta Arts District in North Little Rock.

The parking lot on Main Street between Laman Library and 4th street will be transformed into a temporary performance stage to host live music and comedy acts, food trucks, seating, shade structures, and vendor space for local businesses, Etsy vendors, and artists.

The temporary installation will serve as a multi-use pedestrian plaza to illustrate how the site could be used to serve more purposes for more people.

The first PopUp demonstration occurred on Little Rock's South Main Street in 2012. Subsequent PopUps were held on Little Rock's Seventh Street in 2013, North Little Rock's Park Hill neighborhood along JFK Boulevard in 2014, Historic West Ninth in 2015, and the River Cities Transit Center in 2016.

Additional events are planned for weekends in August and September.
