Responders take part in chemical leak drill

LOWELL, Ark. (AP) - Emergency responders have participated in a chemical leak drill at Beaver Water District.

The drill was run Tuesday and featured responders from several area fire and police departments, county emergency managers, regional hazmat teams and other agencies.

Alan D. Fortenberry of the Beaver Water District says area fire departments approached the facility about doing such a drill.

This is the first time the water district has included area responders in a chemical leak drill.

Bill HagenBurger, plant engineer with the district, says drills like Tuesday's provide an opportunity for everyone to practice using equipment in a non-emergency situation.
