Woman works to change the face of cancer

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- It's estimated that over 1 million new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in the U.S this year, and half of those people will die from the disease.

In Little Rock, one woman is working to change those numbers by offering newly diagnosed patients some extra love and attention.  She is changing the face of cancer by offering patients things to make them feel more confident, like wigs and breast implants.

But ultimately, her goal is to make them feel more comfortable in their own skin.

26-year-old cancer survivor, Christy Jackson, was diagnosed with breast cancer in June 2015.  The first in her family to have been diagnosed, she noticed her nipples on her breast were bleeding.  Jackson feared it was her worst nightmare: cancer.

"After I had my breast removed, it was real emotional, because I had to look at myself every day," Jackson said.

An event sponsored by Little Rock Wellness owner, Terry Tribble brought hope to Jackson.

"Little Rock Wellness Boutique is all about making you feel good from the inside out," Tribble explained.

Jackson feared losing the simple things like her hair.  She started becoming depressed.  Jackson said it was Tribble who gave her hope.

“Just taking a women from I'm scared, I'm nervous and us calming her down and walking her through those steps of this is what you can expect," Tribble said.

Tribble said she wants patients to know that they have options.  Everything from replacing their breast, inking on eyebrows and making custom wigs, Tribble wants people to understand others like her are willing to help.  Even if they themselves don't have cancer.

"The ultimate goal is to really help women that are battling cancer and feel that they don't have help," Tribble said.

Tribble said me she's looking for other breast cancer survivor to join her by being an inspiration to others. She explained no one knows the process better than other survivors.

You can contact Tribble by following Little Rock Wellness Boutique on Facebook or by phone at (501) 313-3865.
