Female veterans hold summit for support in civilian life

SHERWOOD, Ark. (KTHV) – Female veterans held a summit Sunday in Sherwood.

The biannual Women Veterans Summit brought together the growing numbers of women who have served in the armed forces and now look for support in civilian life. Many attendees are recent vets, but 94-year-old World War II veteran Rita Miller is a great guide for women of all ages.

"They're going to need a lot of help, these guys...and girls too. But at my age, you know, I kind of enjoy being with them, and the other ladies. They're quite a bit younger than I am, but I think they enjoy the just the company of it," said Miller, who joined the service in 1943 and served 24 years in Veterans Administration.

Beyond the comradery, the summit offered workshops on civilian careers, including small business advice.
