Stoby's hosts preview before grand reopening, proceeds benefit Haven House

Stoby's coming back 17 months after a fire

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- A Conway classic is finally making its comeback after its old location burned down more than a year ago.

Stoby’s opened up Saturday for a preview of its new restaurant.

"We've missed it. It felt like something was missing in our hearts," Amanda Cowger said.

Stoby’s did not profit from the event as all of the proceeds went to the Haven House in Conway to help build a new home. The restaurant burned down in March of 2016, leaving behind decades of memories.

"For the fire to of happened when it did, it was just devastating," Mary Tate said.

Many longtime customers made sure to take a peek of the new restaurant and to get a taste of the classic menu.

"We used to eat here all the time before it burned down. [It’s been] a part of Conway forever and ever and ever," Billy C. King said.

Even though the building is brand new, Stoby’s made sure to keep some of the old time favorites exactly the same.

"The cheese dip is still wonderful and brought back memories of college," Tate said.

The restaurant has become a family tradition in Conway, so many are ready to start filling the room with new memories.

"My kids grew up eating here.  A lot of the local kids when they're in junior high, high school, they come in and eat," Larry Pillow said.

Stoby's is not open yet but the owners said they are hoping they can officially start serving next week.
