Stop sign upgrade sought at scene of fatal crash

FORT SMITH, Ark. (AP) - A councilman in Fort Smith wants the city to erect a four-way stop sign at an intersection where an Alma High School teacher was killed in a traffic crash.

The Aug. 29 accident claimed the life of 31-year-old Crystal Gale Buswell of Greenwood. Her car was hit by a dump truck at Chaffee Crossing at the intersection of Chad Colley Boulevard and Massard Road.

The Southwest Times Record reports (http://is.gd/B3fScp ) that city board member Kevin Settle says the panel has approved a lot of development in the area and that a four-way stop would make the intersection safer.

At present, there are stop signs on either side of Chad Colley Boulevard.

The city traffic department started a traffic count at the intersection on Wednesday.
