LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Arkansas' Stop the Violence organizers met on Wednesday with the capital city's new chief of police.
Avery Page said the group wants to know how Chief Kenton Buckner is going to respond to this year's high number of homicides.
"In our research in the year of 1993 this city had 70 homicides. It appears we are on that same track this year. We want to get something done about it because in both sides, no one wins," said Page.
Page said he hopes community leaders will step up to help combat crime.
After the weekend, the total number of homicides is at 29.
