Storm shelter rebate deadline on Tuesday

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - If you have a storm shelter, you may qualify for a rebate, but time is running out.

The Arkansas Department of Emergency Management is giving you until Tuesday to mail your applications.

This rebate is for people who have a storm shelter or safe room. Applications must include an invoice, proof of payment, pictures of the inside connections on the door and hinges, and pictures of the ventilation.

If you're approved, you could get 50 percent of what you paid for or $1,000, whichever is less.

The program is open to homeowners who installed one anytime after January 1999, but you have to make sure you call your local emergency coordinator before you send it off.

Robert McGowen of the Benton County Emergency Department said they have already mailed 319 applications.

This shelter rebate program received $1.2 million from the state.

If the money in this program runs out, your application is held, until more funding becomes available in July 2015.
