But Holt said Monday that he would be happy with a runoff with GOP Congressman John Boozman, whose strength among Republicans is expected to put him close to 50 percent.
Holt says he's had volunteers knocking on doors and running phone banks, and also had robocalls chatting up potential voters.
Holt was also on the campaign trail himself. He said Monday late afternoon that he had just pulled into the Wagon Wheel restaurant in Greenbrier to ask diners for their votes.
Eight Republicans are in the race for their party's nomination to challenge for the seat now held by Democrat Blanche Lincoln.
