BENTON, Ark. (KTHV)--A boxing match in Benton Saturday night ends with the death of fighter from El Dorado.
The promoter of the Benton Beatdown, Larry Harris, confirms with Today's THV that Anthony Jones died after two rounds against Quincy Palmer.
He says Jones appeared healthy before the match at Fitness Unlimited. Harris explains, "It's an unfortunate accident that's devastated everyone."
Brandon Hawkins is a fighter and was there when Jones collapsed. He explains, "Not only did they lose the match they lost family, so it was that person's loss and you know its another thing that happens and its real shame for the boxing world."
Today's THV is still waiting to hear from the coroner on whether or not Jones had medical problems. An autopsy is pending.
Hawkins adds, "I've seen a lot worse. That was my debut with pro boxing. I'm a cage fighter and I've done worse to guys. I've taken worse and there is no way he died just from the fight itself."
