TRUMANN, Ark. (AP) -- A funeral will be held later this week for a northeast Arkansas police officer who was shot to death during a traffic stop.
Trumann police on Thursday released details about plans to commemorate the life of 30-year-old Officer Jonathan Schmidt. Authorities say 37-year-old Jerry Lard shot and killed Schmidt after he pulled over a car Tuesday night in which Lard was a passenger. Police say Lard is in a hospital under police guard, and has not been formally charged.
Visitation for Schmidt will be held Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Trumann. A funeral is scheduled for Saturday at 11 a.m. at Central Baptist Church in Jonesboro. Burial will follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park.
