JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) -- Hundred turned out for the funeral of a Trumann police officer who was shot and killed during a traffic stop.
The Jonesboro Sun reports police officers joined family and friends Saturday for the funeral of Trumann Officer Jonathan Schmidt with members of the Jonesboro police and fire honor guard leading the procession.
Afterward, officers walked with the family to a cemetery south of Central Baptist Church in Jonesboro.
Witnesses say Schmidt pushed his sergeant to safety after a passenger in the car shot Schmidt in the neck. Gov. Mike Beebe and others have praised Schmidt for his bravery.
State flags were flown at half-mast through the weekend to honor Schmidt.
