CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) -Lyle Reed hopes Nicholas Sheley's next
trial moves quickly.
Reed is the son of Russell Reed of Sterling. Sheley is charged
with killing 93-year-old Russell Reed in June 2008 as part of a
string of eight killings in Illinois and Missouri.
Sheley was convicted Monday in the first of those cases. But
proceedings in Whiteside County for the deaths of Reed and four
other people are scheduled to start this Monday, and the legal
process could slow to a crawl.
Lyle Reed's father was found dead in his car after the son
discovered blood in his home. Meanwhile Mazie Estes of Sherwood, Ark., awaits Sheley's trial in Missouri. He's charged there with killing Estes' son, Tom, and his wife, Jill.
Mazie Estes says the case is taking far too long.
