LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Michael J. Laux, attorney for the family of Eugene Ellison, will hold a press conference on Oct. 17 at 11:00 a.m. at The Capital Hotel to announce the filing of a federal civil rights lawsuit based on the Dec. 9, 2010 off-duty police shooting of Ellison which killed him.
The City of Little Rock, certain Little Rock police officers and Ellison's apartment complex will be named as defendants.
Eugene Ellison, 67, was a Vietnam veteran, and was shot and killed in his home by Little Rock police officers Donna Lesher and Tabitha McCrillis.
Laux claims the police shooting of Ellison, as well as the warrantless entry into his home, were gross violations of his constitutional rights and state law, insofar as the officers had no legal basis to enter Ellison's apartment and committed acts of excessive force once inside.
