JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) - A pre-trial hearing has been scheduled in the case of an Arkansas man accused of killing a police officer.

A hearing for Jerry Lard is slated for Thursday in Jonesboro.

Lard was charged with capital murder after prosecutors said he shot and killed Trumann Officer Jonathan Schmidt during a traffic stop last year.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty in the case.

Lard has pleaded not guilty to capital murder, attempted capital murder and possession of methamphetamine, along with a firearms charge.

He is scheduled to go on trial in July.
