Students perform The Lion King in culmination of youth program's first year

The Lion King to be performed at St. Mark

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) – Program Impact is in its first year at the St. Mark Baptist Church youth center.

A key focus of the program is to develop educational resources—especially arts enrichment—and engage with the community. Currently 22 schools from Little Rock and Pulaski County feed into the program.

The program balances intensive tutoring in reading and mathematics with artistic performances.

The first semester the students spent time learning the elements of staged performance, and at the beginning of the second semester they began work on a production of the Lion King.

At the program, the students work on every aspect of the performance, helping with the set, writing the scripts, and even making their own costumes.

On Thursday (May 11) the students’ work will culminate in a performance at St. Mark, stating at 6:30 p.m.
