Suspect charged with arson after four fires in Heights, Cammack Village

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- An arrest has been made in connection to multiple fire breakouts last night in the Heights and Cammack Village area.

28-year-old Billy Ray Harrell is now facing four counts of arson. The Little Rock Fire Marshall is currently investigating all four of these fires, each within 40 minutes of each other.

Police said the suspect was intoxicated and got into a verbal altercation with his wife. He set her home on fire and took off.

“He had a criminal background and has a lengthy rap sheet. But he seemed okay,” said Kathleen Fisher, a resident in the area.

Neighbors said this is the last thing any of them saw coming.

“Last night I could hear two neighbors going around sounding kind of frantic,” Fisher said.

She lives on Skywood Road where fire crews responded to the first fire at 7:15 p.m. From her door she could see clouds of smoke coming from the home across the street.

“He took off walking down Skywood and Hillwood,” she described.

From there, police said Harrell set two other homes on fire. One on Brentwood Road around 7:27 p.m. where most of the damage occurred in the carport and storage area. The homeowner said a lot of family memories were ruined. Then officials said Harrell made his way to a home on Durwood Road at 7:49 p.m. where he also set fire to a carport.

“Nobody's expecting their house to burn down,” said Fisher.

Officials said the fourth fire happened around 7:59 p.m. in a wooded area on Kings Row Drive. The fire department put it out before it spread too far.
