LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - THV11 is proud to team up with North Point Volvo to host a lemonade stand as part of the Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) to raise money and awareness of childhood cancer causes, primarily research into new treatments and cures.
The North Point Volvo Alex's Lemonade Stand will have an online fundraising page which will be up from June 15 to June 21, 2014 with a goal of raising $5,000 to go towards childhood cancer research and treatments. Also North Point Volvo will have actual lemonade stand on site from June 19, 2014 to June 21, 2014 asking for a donation to ALSF for each cup of lemonade served to their customers on site.
North Point Volvo's President and General Manager Jerry Holmsley said, "We had read about Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation through Volvo and it looked like something that once you hear about it you want to be a part of it and it's one of those things that this would be a good community involvement where we can give back to the community and get the community involved as well. It's really a heartwarming story."
THV 11 will also be airing a thirty minute CBS special "Alex Scott A Stand for Hope" on Friday, June 20, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. (C.T.) and Saturday, June 21, 2014 at 1:00 a.m. (C.T.) that tells the story of the Alex Scott, the cancer-stricken little girl who had the idea to start a lemonade stand that would help all kids with cancer. The charity founded in her name now funds childhood cancer research efforts across the U.S. Lemonade stands are held all over the world in her honor.
This year marks the tenth anniversary of National Lemonade Days, an annual June tradition that raises over $1 million for childhood cancer research through thousands of stands and activities.
