Debbie Arnold: Cooking with Gerber

Frozen Peach Yogurt using peaches and peach yogurt baby food. --THV11.com 06/14/16

As a brand ambassador and blogger, I often get to experiment with products in new and creative ways. Such was the case when I was asked to work with the Gerber Products Company recently in their #CookingWithGerber campaign. While Gerber is a household name when it comes to baby foods, did you know that you can incorporate many of their food products in family-oriented recipes as well? And what is especially nice is that you can adapt many of these ideas for your toddler while also feeding the rest of your crew. That’s a win-win in my book.

I’ve enjoyed cooking with baby food for the #CookingWithGerber campaign. It works great as a binder in dishes such as Baby Lovin’ Turkey Meatballs; you can use it to thicken stews and soups. I often use the purees instead of oils when baking or as I did in the frozen yogurt. And it makes super smoothies that both you and your toddler will enjoy. There aren’t any added sugars or unpronounceable ingredients which I really like.

If you are traveling or camping this summer, take along some of the fruits or yogurt blends. They are shelf stable, needing no refrigeration and they’re healthy to boot! They also make great additions to school lunch boxes when you start packing those again in the fall.

Baby foods — they’re not just for babies anymore.

If you want to explore additional ideas for dishes for your little ones take a look at the Gerber® website. You can also do a search using #CookingWithGerber for a number of ideas using these products in new, delicious ways.

PEACH FROZEN YOGURT

With the summer ice cream season upon us, you will definitely want to add this Peach Frozen Yogurt to your list of ideas to try. Of course, you don’t have to just save it for summer since you can find these ingredients year round at Walmart or your local supermarket.

Ingredients

•    3 cups whole milk Greek yogurt, strained*

•    2 3.5-ounce containers Gerber® peach yogurt blends

•    1 4-ounce container Gerber® 2nd foods peaches

•    1 cup sugar

•    1 teaspoon almond extract

•    1 1/4 cups finely cubed fresh or frozen peaches, optional

*Using whole milk regular yogurt will give a creamier product. We like the tang of the Greek yogurt, but it does create a firmer product that freezes quite hard.  Allow it to soften at room temperature before serving.

Homemade frozen yogurts or ice creams need to be eaten within a day or two of making them since they do not have the stabilizers commercial products do.
