VAN BUREN COUNTY, Ark. (KTHV) - Van Buren County Sheriff Scott Bradley said he has never worked an accident with so many victims in one location. "It's a bad accident. I just feel bad for the ones who lost their lives today."
At about 3:15 Monday afternoon a log truck lost its brakes and came barreling down a hill out of control, slamming into a bridge with 30-40 construction workers on it.
"When the truck hit the bridge it turned over and dumped all the logs onto the construction workers on the bridge," said Bradley.
More than 20 of those workers suffered injuries ranging from minor cuts & bruises to major broken legs. Bradley jumped in along with others trying to help wounded. "When I arrived at the scene there were guys down everywhere with broken limbs, some of them pinned underneath the logs."
One person died on the Temne bridge, and another died later. A total of 10 were taken to various hospitals, and 3 of them were airlifted.
State police along with Van Buren County sheriffs and Clinton Police are investigating the accident. As of Monday evening, no citations had been issued.
